1.www.funbrain.com These games were in the "Math Arcade" section.
"Math Basketball" I liked this site. A student will enter his/her gender and “level” (i.e. grade level) then play a series of games by moving through a game board. You need to beat one game in order to go onto the next game. I like the visuals in the games, especially in the “Moon Rocks” game (a matching game where you have to match correct addition and subtraction facts). One downfall to some of the more advanced games are that they directions might be a little difficult for a lower elementary student to understand, but with a little help from the teacher this shouldn’t be a problem! There are also fun sound effects on most of these games, too!
-The game that I really enjoyed was the “Math Basketball” game mostly because of the on screen “scratch pad” to help a student perform addition with carrying. The “scratch pad” acts as a piece of scrap paper for students to work out more difficult problems, it’s a really cool tool to use!
"Cannon Math" -This game had really fun and authentic sound effects. I like how students will have to solve the addition problem before you can aim and shoot the cannon. While a student is aiming the cannon, he/she is also learning about angles and the appropriate amount of force needed to shoot the man out of the cannon. This was a fun, interactive game that teaches many different math concepts at once!
-This was an AWESOME site, not just for the math games but a educational spot for kids to download and print out flashcards (ex: multiplication and division facts) and read actual lessons(written by real teachers) that help kids with different mathematical concepts. JAVA needs to be installed for these games to work on a computer, so that is something that should be done before this site is used in a lab or the classroom. The games on this site go all the way up to pre-algebra so there is plenty of challenge for your more advanced students as well.
"The Number Monster"
-I really enjoyed this game because it is set up for any level of difficulty for each student. Differentiation is possible by using this game (amongst others on the site), and I really think that your higher level students will benefit from this game/site and your learners that need more practice will find this site useful.
